WIC
The Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program helps women who are pregnant or have children up to five years old get healthy food, nutrition education, and health care referrals. Your income will determine if you are able to join the program.
Family nutrition and health education is given at every WIC appointment.
Some of the topics include:
- Nutrition during pregnancy
- Breastfeeding
- Your child’s nutrition
- Parenting tips
Peer counselors (moms who breastfed their babies) are available to help with breastfeeding through one-on-one meetings and group classes. There are also group discussions on topics like food safety, family activities, and budgeting.
WIC has a variety of appointments:
- Talk time with a nutritionist about general concerns
- Health and nutrition updates
- Program certification and recertification
- Group discussions with other families
Everything discussed during your WIC appointment is kept confidential.
At your first appointment, be sure to bring:
- Proof of identity for each person applying
- Proof that you live in New York State
- Proof of income for each household member, or proof of Medicaid coverage or participation in the SNAP (food stamps) or Temporary Assistance to Needy Families programs

The WIC program helps you buy healthy foods, including:
