Home is where our heart is
Clean, safe, and affordable housing is a key to a healthy life, and having a roof over one’s head is a worry no one should ever have. Sun River Health connects clients and their families with housing specialists in our communities.
Health and housing
Founded through Sun River Health in response to the housing crisis in Westchester County, The Preservation Company, Inc. of Peekskill, New York increases access to housing for low and moderate-income families, and advances community development and revitalization.
.
Shelter from the storm
Healthy communities begin with healthy homes and Sun River Health is committed to connecting clients in our neighborhoods with specialists in low- and moderate-income housing near you.
“A Sun River Health patient was seeking a counselor for her young daughter after showing signs of trauma, as a direct result of displacement after her parents’ separation. Sun River Health referred the patient to the Preservation Company to work with her on finding affordable housing in her area. After a short period of searching, we helped her find an apartment with all the amenities she needed, including access to transportation. As a result, her daughter has been able to recover successfully.”
—Ada Coronado, Sun River Health Care Manager

Affordable Homeownership Program/ Home Preservation Program:
Rebuilding Together Dutchess County: Transforming the lives of low-income homeowners by improving the safety and health of their homes and revitalizing our communities. Rebuilding Together Dutchess County provides critical repairs, accessibility modifications and energy efficiency improvements for low-income homeowners, including seniors, persons living with disability, families with children and active or retired members of the armed services. These services are provided at no cost to the homeowner. Our services ensure that qualified low-income homeowners live independently in warm, safe, healthy, and dry homes. We also rehabilitate properties that house qualifying non-profit organizations serving our community. The impact of our efforts extends beyond the individual families and nonprofit organizations we serve, as our work revitalizes and stabilizes vulnerable neighborhoods and communities across Dutchess County.

Safe Homes of Orange County: offers emergency shelter to individuals and families affected by domestic violence, teen dating violence and human trafficking, regardless of race, sexual orientation, socio-economic or religious background. Located in a confidential and secure location in Orange County, they offer a safe space for those who have been devastated by violence and abuse—a space where victims and their families can reclaim and rebuild their lives. For up to 90 days, individuals and families can stay in the Safe Homes of Orange County shelter while working with advocates to plan their next steps.
When survivors seek to leave their homes, they may face the additional challenge of finding a safe home for their pets, and at times this may become an additional barrier to leaving. Through a collaborative effort with the Warwick Valley Humane Society, they are also able to arrange temporary housing for pets. The Safe Pets Program provides a safe haven for both household and other types of pets while an individual or family resides in the Safe Homes of Orange County emergency shelter.

SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL: Rental Arrears Assistance:
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s Family Assistance Program offers families in crisis the financial aid they need to ease some of their monthly financial burdens, and take the steps they need to get back on their feet. By helping families with their financial obligations, they are able to gradually pull themselves out of their mounting debt. In fact, in most cases, families receiving this assistance will only require a one-time payment to get their bills up-to-date, after which they are caught up and able to manage their household needs again.
In addition to financial help, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul offers counseling and budget assistance to help those families stay in control of their finances.
