Sun River Health has partnered with the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County, Stop & Shop, and AboutFresh on a Fruit & Veggie Prescription Program.
With Sun River Health’s participation being led by Carissa Munoz and Christina Figueroa, this program allows participants who are managing diabetes or prediabetes to attend nutrition workshops conducted by certified CCE Suffolk Nutrition Educators in both English and Spanish and earn vouchers for free fruits and vegetables.
With the introduction of AboutFresh’s Fresh Connect technology, program participants now receive prepaid debit cards that can be used at all forty-nine Stop & Shop stores on Long Island, significantly enhancing their access to nutritious foods. This enhancement not only streamlines the redemption process for participants but also expands their options, empowering them to make healthier choices for themselves and their families with a wider selection of fresh produce.
As Sun River Health moves forward with this expansion, we are optimistic about the positive impact this program will make on the lives of those serve.
