Sun River Health began providing free books for children at 3 Urgent Care locations in 2021. In 2022, we expanded these efforts to all health center locations. When visiting for care, or accompanying a family member, all children are invited to take a book home with them, including healthcare related books, educational materials and age-appropriate stories. Sun River Health has partnered with Scholastic to purchase books at a reduced rate as needed to ensure this program can reach the widest group of children with quality books.
Recently, we have been excited to be able to add toys to this program through a donation by Valley Day Care & Preschool which included over 70 items for holiday children gifts. The addition of toys will enable children, many of whom come from underserved communities, to leave our health centers with something special to bring home and create a lasting good feeling about going to the doctor – an experience which can be quite scary for younger children, or those who need urgent care.
