Sun River Health commemorates the oldest known celebration of the ending of slavery in the United States with a free event for the whole family at The Paramount Hudson Valley Theater in Peekskill on June 17.
PEEKSKILL, NEW YORK –Sun River Health, a network of 43 Federally Qualified Health Centers throughout the Hudson Valley, New York City, and Long Island, will host a free Juneteenth Celebration at The Paramount Hudson Valley Theater in Peekskill on Friday, June 17 at 7:30 pm. Featuring musical performances from Ray Blue, KJ Denhert, Acute Inflections, and Bria The Artist, the evening will also highlight the central role of the four African American mothers who founded the organization in the early 1970s and Sun River Health’s ongoing, mission-driven work in equitable health care.
“Juneteenth is a central day for us, our communities, and the patients we serve,” said Rev. Jeannette J. Phillips, Sun River Health Founder and EVP of Community Development. “We can trace a clear line from the first Juneteenth in 1865, to the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, to the founding of our first health center in 1975, to our work today at Sun River Health. Bringing health care to everyone, no matter the color of their skin, is truly a part of what liberation means.”
Special guests will include Peekskill Mayor Vivian C. McKenzie and Valerie Eaton, President of the Peekskill NAACP.
The evening will also include a special presentation of original artist portraits to Sun River Health’s “founding families”.
To reserve free tickets for this event, visit The Paramount Hudson Valley Theater Box Office or contact them at 914-739-0039 (ext. 2) or boxoffice@paramounthudsonvalley.com.
