Carmen Chinea

Dr. Chinea is a Physician leader with expertise in developing, implementing, expanding, and managing quality clinical programs that aim to provide all patients with access to the care they need.
Dr. Chinea was with Sun River Health for 15 years, most recently as our Chief of Clinical Strategy and Development - overseeing Urgent Care and Telemedicine operations and recruitment, physician practice acquisition, credentialing and privileging, and involvement in the National Institutes of Health’s All of Us Program. Currently, she serves as National Director Virtual HealthCare at ChenMed.
Dr. Chinea began a solo Private Practice of Nephrology in Western Pennsylvania, became Director of the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at Conemaugh Memorial Hospital in Johnstown, PA, and the Assistant Clinical Professor at the Temple University School of Medicine. She became owner, President, and Medical Director of Home Dialysis of Johnstown, in addition to being an Associate Medical Director at UPMC-Lee Regional Dialysis Center, and serving on several boards, including the Board of Directors of the National Kidney Foundation of Western Pennsylvania.
While practicing, Dr. Chinea developed a strong interest in public health and population management, leading her to receive an MPH from the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University in 2003. During her master’s program, she learned about community health centers, and joined Sun River Health in 2004. She served as CMO from 2010 to 2017, during which time Sun River Health expanded to nearly 30 health centers, and from 80 providers to over 350. Dr. Chinea received her Medical Degree from the Universidad Central del Este, in the Dominican Republic, and completed an Internal Medicine Residency in 1986 at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, and a Nephrology Fellowship in 1988 at New York Hospital, Weil-Cornell.
