On Monday, May 20, New York State Attorney General Letitia James, Richmond County District Attorney Mike McMahon, and Staten Island Borough President James Oddo visited the Community Health Action of Staten Island (CHASI) for a round-table discussion on the opioid crisis. CHASI, a member of Hudson River Health Care (HRHCare), has offered programs that support recovery for individuals living with substance use disorder on Staten Island for over 30 years. – May 2019

On Thursday, April 25, NYS Assemblyman Lalor (R-105) toured the HRHCare Dover Plains Health Center and mobile health center, learning more about the high quality primary and preventive health services that HRHCare delivers in Eastern Dutchess County. During his visit, the Assemblyman heard about partnerships that HRHCare has with local organizations, including co-sponsoring health fairs and community dinners with Dover Elementary School, diabetes education and prediabetes screenings with the local Lions Club chapter, and long-standing collaborations with the Rural Health Network. In addition to touring the health center, the Assemblyman, who served as a Marine, was able to have a conversation with Patrick Elfnor and Patrick Flynn, two senior veterans who shared their positive experiences as HRHCare patients. – April 2019

Newly elected Legislator Samuel Gonzalez (D-9) visited the HRHCare Brentwood Health Center for the first time as an elected official, though he’d stopped by many times before. The Legislator was impressed with the refurbished and expanded site, and the progress being made on the construction of additional space. “I was happy to have toured the HRHCare Brentwood Health Center,” said Legislator Samuel Gonzalez. “Investing in community-based care ensures that our residents receive the best health care services. I am pleased that Suffolk County and HRHCare have continued to collaborate to preserve and enhance primary care access for our residents.” – April 2019

Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney (D, NY-18) visited the newly renovated HRHCare Health Center in Poughkeepsie at 75 Washington Street, and learned about the wide array of primary and preventive care services offered to the surrounding community. Later that afternoon he tweeted, “Get your flu shot! Just got mine and took a tour of HRHCare in Poughkeepsie! We need to make sure that community health centers continue to get the support they need.” –  November 2018

HRHCare welcomed Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) to the HRHCare Maxine S. Postal Health Center in Amityville to take a VIP tour of the center, and hold a press conference to announce a new piece of legislation that the Senator would be proposing. The Basic Health Program Expansion Act of 2018 aims to grant insurance to more than 400,000 New Yorkers who do not qualify for Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program. “I want to recognize the Reverend Jeannette Phillips, whose vision has given birth to this health center,” said Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. “I really appreciate that all of you here have dedicated yourselves to bringing health care to this community. The truth is that we as New Yorkers believe that health care should be a right and not a privilege. It is important that every hardworking New Yorker has access to the basic care they need.” NYS Assemblywoman Kimberly Jean-Pierre (D-11) spoke in support of expanding healthcare access for her community, and received a flu shot during the visit.   – November 2018

On Friday, January 12, U.S. Representative Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1) joined HRHCare President and CEO Anne Kauffman Nolon, and representatives of the Community Health Center Association of New York State at the HRHCare Elsie Owens Health Center in Coram for a press conference to urge the reauthorization of the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and full funding for community health centers. This press conference was held ahead of possible Congressional consideration of the programs’ funding. – January 2018
